One last thing!!

Did you know that Rose of York is soon to become a Teacher Training Centre?

If you are interested in becoming a qualified EFL teacher, or if you know anyone who is, why not check out the website, it's called www.training4tefl.com

Bye! (^_^)

Autumn is here! :-s

Hi everyone!!

It has been a while since I have posted on this blog, as facebook seems to be getting all the attention nowadays. In case you haven't witnessed the cyberpalace that is the Rose of York facebook page, you can check it out here or just search for 'Rose of York' in the seach bar on your facebook homepage.

Since my last post we've done a lot! We've had THREE amazing football matches, we've been to the National Gallery, we've been to the Proms, had a fantastic SUMMER PARTY, been to see a Musical for free on the Southbank of the Thames, gone Ice Skating, been to the National Portrait Gallery, had a merry Mid-Term pub night, and been to see 'Alice in Wonderland' for free. There's lots more happening soon, especially with Hallowe'en round the corner - perhaps a little celebration is in order?!

Tonight's sciencetastic scienceathon and next month!

'sup y'alls

Tonight is the last social event of June, and it's a good one! We are going to the Science museum in South Kensington, for a night of adults-only, extra-special, super-funky, kinda-crazy, climate change-related activities and talks. And get this: there will even be a silent disco! Yes, a silent disco! If you don't know what a silent disco is, then I'm not sure I can really hang out with you anymore, unless you find out quickly by googling it. Oh, and here's a clue, it's a kind of disco.

June has been a fun and busy month for the social calendar, and July will be even better. Here's what we propose:

Wednesday the 6th of July: Football in Regent's Park. Straight after school, you know the score. Although you'll have to be on the ball and bring your trainers with you on the day. Sorry I've crossed the line with the number of puns in this post.

Friday the 15th of July: Evening visit to the National Gallery. There are some real masterpieces in this gallery, so don't miss it!

Wednesday the 20th of July: Prom: Dvorak and Smetana. The Proms are a great English tradition of cheap and informal, but top quality classical music concerts. You'd be bonkers to miss this evening of great music, which will only cost FIVE POUNDS!

Friday the 29th of July: Summer Party. I'm going to keep you in suspense about this one. I'll give the necessary details nearer the time.

Peace,
Joseph

This Week's Social!

Ahoy,
thanks to all the students and teachers who came along to the British Museum on Friday, it was great fun checking out the mummies and whathaveyou together. I'll post a few photos on the facebook page soon.

This week we're going bowling! There have been a few changes to our plans: it is now on FRIDAY, and at Queens Bowling Lanes. However, to make it easy-peasy for you to find it, we are going to meet at Rose of York after afternoon lessons have finished, and then at 4.15 go together on the tube to the bowling alley, which is only a few stops away on the circle line. If you want to make your own way there, you can meet us at the bowling alley just before 5 p.m. (the postcode of the alley is W2 4QP).

It'll cost about £7, for any more details you can ask me (Joe), or have a look at the posters which will be appearing around the school shortly.

See you on Friday!

April 2011 Social Events!!!!

Spring has arrived!
The sun has come out (London got close to a baking 28 degrees c last weekend!), people are starting to stagger out blinking into the streets after the long hibernation of winter, and here at Rose of York we've prepared a smörgåsbord of exciting events to keep students and staff busy.

Friday the 15th of April saw the return of the hallowed tradition that is 'mid-term pub night' at our local boozer, the 'Pontefract Castle' pub. Everyone was keen to unwind after the stress and strain of the mid-term exams, and a great crowd of people piled into the basement alcoves of the pub to drink, chat and make merry. Check out the photos on Rose of York's facebook page, or on the photo section of the official website that probably linked you here.

As you may already know, last Sunday (the 24th of April) was Easter, and so both Friday and Monday either side of it were bank holidays. We commemorated the season with a bombastic scavenger hunt on Thursday the 21st of April, that saw students spilling into the streets in order to gather clues, spot landmarks, and collect items. The winners received chocolate, as did the losers. A great time was had by all, and the scavenger hunt looks set to become an annual tradition. Photos are on the website and facebook page, as with the pub trip.

We'd love to know what you would like to see in future social events, why not get in touch? You can do so either by posting a comment here, or through the facebook page. Let us know what you want to see!

There will be a few select photos arriving here as well over the next few days, so visit back and check it out!

Bye for now. :-)
